STAMMERING
'The Fluency Centre' - Andrew Bell

A 35min BBC TV Documentary featured the success of our Course

Andrew explains how stammering affected his life.

I'm Andrew Bell - From the age of four, I had a bad stammer which had a marked effect on my ability to communicate freely. Throughout my schooling years I attended elocution classes as well as a number of speech therapists who tried to help my speech by using various forms of treatment and techniques, but without success.  In my teens, the stammer became worse and more severe, increasing the anxiety and nervous tension, which made my daily life quite a struggle to get through.  Using sheer determination, I would try to express myself fully despite the great physical effort involved.

Never did I seek sympathy from other people. There were times when my speech was less affected than others, but on the days when my stammer was very bad, speaking was an exhausting struggle which left me physically and emotionally drained. Occasionally I would hide behind my stammer and not speak up by refusing to become involved in conversations and not reply to questions to which I knew the answer, although I knew this was wrong, because although I was quite outgoing and confident at times, in more formal situations people were seeing me as a shy, retiring, incompetent person, who lacked knowledge and opinions - which was not the 'real me'.

In everything I attempted in life, I continually felt a need to prove myself and show that I was at least as good as other people. This desire to constantly compensate for my inferior speech, dictated that I put extra effort and work into every activity and aspect of my daily life.
My parents and I spent considerable sums of money on specialised treatments which included an electronic metronome, slow measured speaking, syllabic speech and prolonged speech, as well as various forms of relaxation techniques, but everything pointed to the fact that I had a speech problem that no one was able to correct - including Speech Therapists.  In a desperate effort to help, my GP tried me on various 'calming' drugs, but with no effect.

Although I knew the confident person I was within myself, I was unable to express this confidence to other people through my voice and speech in everyday life, as my stammer was very much a part of me and my life. Whilst working in architecture in Edinburgh I studied self-evolved theories on communicative emotions, which, combined with specialised fluency techniques, enabled me to become a confident, fluent-speaking, stammer-free person - which was the 'real me'!  I then developed techniques to deal with all forms of stammering - after which I began running speech courses fulltime.  In the early 1990's I held advanced communication workshops at Durham University, with people attending from as far as South Africa and Holland, and from throughout the UK.

I later developed my skills and became a Success & Energy Psychologist and Motivational Conference Speaker, then stopped the speech courses due to increased obligations to my new 'high-achievement' business, which runs seminars, workshops and speaker presentations for achieving greater success in Business, Professional Sport and Education.
Due to demand, I now take several '1 to 1 Fluency Coaching' sessions per year.

Biography

Andrew Bell is a Speech & Success Psychologist and an eminent Motivational Conference Speaker with a unique, powerful approach to transforming people's lives, in having devised the Self-Core-Values-Concept which strikes 'at the heart' of human Achievement Capabilities, taking them from ORDINARY to EXTRA-ORDINARY for outstanding success.

From the age of four, Andrew, who lives in Kirkcaldy near Edinburgh in Scotland, had a severe stammer which inhibited his ability to communication freely.  Andrew always felt a continual need to prove himself in everything he attempted, to show that he was at least as good as other people, putting in extra effort and work into every activity and aspect of his daily life to constantly compensate for his inferior speech.

Various forms of speech therapy and several specialised approaches all failed to resolve his speech problem, which on really bad days made life very stressful and exhausting.

Whilst working in architecture in Edinburgh, Andrew studied self-evolved theories on communicative emotions, which, combined with specialised fluency techniques, enabled him to become a confident, fluent speaking, stammer-free person.  This led Andrew to develop techniques to deal with all forms of stammering - after which he began running speech courses fulltime.

In 1985 an entire 30 min BBC TV 'QED' documentary featured Andrew's unparalleled success, which was also reported in numerous publications including: The Radio Times, Daily Telegraph, Sunday Times, The Guardian, Woman’s Own and Woman magazines, etc., - resulting in Andrew being recognised as a world renowned leader in the field, with organisations and people around the world seeking his expert advice and tuition on curing stammering.

Andrew has radically transformed the lives of thousands of people around the world - having treated people who have travelled from: Iceland, Finland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Holland, Germany, France, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, India, Russia, Colombia, Brazil, Kenya, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

In the early 1990's advanced communication workshops were held at Durham University, with people attending from as far as South Africa and Holland, and from throughout the UK.

Andrew, who according to 'The Manchester Evening News' is "a very charismatic figure", then developed 'success-performance-techniques' and launched his new 'high-achievement' business to take his expertise to a wider market, offering people in business and professional sport the opportunity to succeed in achieving their highest aspirations.

In 2006 Andrew stopped the speech courses due to increased obligations to his 'high-achievement' business, which runs seminars and speaker presentations for achieving greater success in Business, Professional Sport and Education.  Due to demand, Andrew now holds several '1 to 1 Fluency Coaching' sessions per year.   Central to the success of the Fluency Coaching is Andrew's self-devised, unique Self-Core-Values-Concept, which elevates your Root Emotions, Mindset and Speech.  This Self-Core-Values-Concept is much more powerful than the approach used on the Speech Courses, hence only 2-days of Fluency Coaching is effectively successful.
